WICHITA, Kansas (CNN) -- -- Dennis Rader, 59, of Park City, Kansas, has been arrested in connection with Wichita's BTK serial killings, Wichita Lt. Ken Landwehr, commander of the task force investigating the case, announced Saturday.

Police will file 10 counts in connection with the killings -- eight counts of first degree-murder and two other homicides -- against Rader, according to Landwehr and Sedgwick County Sheriff Gary Steed.

The first-degree murder charges are related to the following killings:

  • January 1974: Julie and Joseph Otero were strangled in their home along with two of their children, Joseph Jr. and Josephine.
  • April 1974: Kathryn Bright, 21, was stabbed to death in her home.
  • March 1977: Shirley Vian, 24, was tied up and strangled in her home.
  • December 1977: Nancy Fox, 25, was tied up and strangled in her home. BTK's voice was captured on tape when he called a police dispatcher to report the homicide.
  • September 1986: Vicki Wegerle, 28, was strangled in her home.
  • Police will also add two homicide charges for the killings of Dolores Davis in January 1991 and Marine Hedge in April 1985, both Park City, Kansas, residents, according to Steed.
  • None of the charges had been filed with Sedgwick County District Attorney Nola Foulston as of noon Saturday.

Landwehr said Rader was arrested without incident during a routine car stop.
