STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -- An official says eight miners are trapped in a mine in northern Sweden after a fire.
The miners are waiting in a rescue chamber below the area where a vehicle caught fire earlier Thursday, about 1,250 meters (410 feet) below ground.
"There are no reports about injuries, but a fire in a mine is always very serious," says Kajsa Lindmark, a spokeswoman for the LKAB mining company.
Lindmark says the rescue service from the Malmberget mine is trying to extinguish the fire.
The Malmberget mine consists of about 20 orebodies, of which 10 are currently mined.
