Swing, Daddy-o! Dance music rising up current chartsWeb posted on: Friday, July 17, 1998 3:12:55 PM EDT LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Don't look now, but in this era of retro madness, when just about every form of music -- even dead disco -- is making a comeback, Swing is King. The big band sound with the snappy step that was the cat's meow 50 years ago is seen today in the the music of bands like Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and Indigo Swing. Why is this music climbing Billboard charts again, after so many years in exile? "It's probably a reaction to years and years of the grunge sound kind of dominating the radio," says Jason Moss of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. "I think people are kind of into, they are tired of that. They are into something which is more energetic, exuberant." Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums did their thing on CNN Showbiz Today. Give a listen. Correspondent Jim Moret contributed to this report.
