Music sans instruments hitting high note in popularity

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Most people associate a capella music with barbershop quartets and doo-wop artists. But the style of music -- singing without accompaniment from instruments -- is evolving into something much more, something approaching alternative.

"The a cappella scene has gotten so much bigger and it's not recognized as being part of the music scene," says Matthew Stull, whose group The Bobs performed at the recent A Capella Festival.

Gloria Hillard filed a report from the festival.
