Eurythmics to tour after 10-year hiatusLONDON (CNN) -- The Eurythmics are planning their first major tour in 10 years. Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart staged a miniconcert Monday on the River Thames to announce it. Proceeds from the tour are to go to Greenpeace and Amnesty International. In keeping with that aim, Lennox and Stewart performed on the Rainbow Warrior II, a Greenpeace vessel. The couple, whose biggest hit was 1983's "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)," began working on a new album last year, almost a decade after separating. The tour is scheduled to last from September to December, with stops in Germany, France, Italy, the United States, Australia, Sweden and Denmark. The hope is that audience members and album buyers will each pledge at least $16 to Amnesty International and Greenpeace.
Spears angers holiday-concert fansBETHEL, New York (CNN) -- While a miniconcert was just the thing for the Eurythmics aboard what Lennox called "a very noble boat" -- a short entertainment wasn't enough for Britney Spears fans at the site of the original Woodstock site in Bethel, New York. Some 6,000 people bought $30 tickets for her "Fourth of July" concert. They endured 90-degree heat and four opening acts, only to see her perform for just 20 minutes. One woman stood outside Spears' buses, pointing her thumbs down and cursing. A Bethel official says he believes Spears was supposed to perform for at least 45 minutes. New owners of the former Max Yasgur farm -- home to the famous 1969 festival -- have turned the Sullivan County property into a concert venue.
2 Live Crewman slapped with battery chargeMIAMI BEACH, Florida (CNN) -- Rapper Luther Campbell faces aggravated battery charges. Police arrested him Monday after he allegedly struck a man in the face with a whiskey bottle at a nightclub, possibly breaking his nose. Police say the former front man of 2 Live Crew was angered when a man and his friends blocked his view of a show at Club Zen. Campbell was taken to Miami-Dade County Jail and later released. He gained notoriety in 1990, when he was acquitted on charges of giving an obscene performance at a south Florida nightclub. This was during the period that Campbell and his cohorts ran afoul of then-Florida attorney general Jack Thompson. 2 Live Crew became a part of the national debate on censorship and free speech rights in the music industry when a Florida judge declared one of their albums "obscene."
Jagger, Hall to start divorce proceedings
LONDON (CNN) -- Speculation about a reconciliation between Rolling Stone Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall apparently was off the mark, as Jagger's attorneys confirmed that preliminary divorce proceedings are to begin this week. Hall filed for divorce in January, after a Brazilian model said she was pregnant with Jagger's child. The singer is contesting the divorce. He says they're not married -- and that a 1990 wedding ceremony in Indonesia wasn't legally valid. They've been together for 21 years and have four children. "Mick Jagger's lawyers want to make it clear that the purpose of Friday's court hearing is to determine the future procedural conduct of the case," a statement from his publicity agents said. "The judge will not rule on the issue of the validity of the marriage, but will merely make directions as to the future progress of the case." Neither Jagger nor Hall is expected to appear in court. Sightings of Hall and Jagger with their children in recent days -- and a very public kiss at a movie premiere -- had led to rumors that they'd patched things up.
FOX to sidestep official fall TV kickoffNEW YORK (CNN) -- Variety says FOX is breaking with tradition and holding the start of its fall TV season until after September 20. The report says FOX plans to delay the premiere dates of most of its new shows until mid-October or later. The Sunday comedy "Malcolm in the Middle" probably will debut in January, after the completion of the NFL season. The Thursday teen soap "Manchester Prep" is set for a December launch. "Party of Five" spinoff "Time of Your Life" -- which is being reshot partly because the original pilot was considered too quirky -- is scheduled to debut in mid-to-late October. New Friday dramas, "Ryan Caulfield" and "Harsh Realm," will likely follow the pattern of past FOX Friday series and bow in early- to mid-October. The delay is said to be part of a strategy. FOX programmers are hoping the staggered launch pattern will help decrease the number of repeats during non-sweeps months while allowing the network to focus its promotional energies on a few shows at a time. It's also thought the network wants to avoid confusing viewers by introducing a new lineup with radical changes on five nights over a couple of weeks. The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.
