60 years on: 1944-2004
Sunday, June 6 marked the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings, when more than 100,000 Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in northern France and turned the tide of World War II.
More than a dozen world leaders attended the commemoration, including U.S. President George W. Bush, Russian President Vladimir Putin, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and -- for the first time -- a sitting German leader, Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
