"Star Trek"
Regardless of theme, what's a television timeline without NBC's "Star Trek"? Trekkies, listen up. According to Richard A. Schwartz in the book "Cold War Culture," the show's character dynamics (between emotional Dr. McCoy, super-rational Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk's middle ground) "addressed the conflict in Cold War America between the growing scientific, emotionally detached technocracy and the humanists who advocated national policy predicated on more emotional grounds." Moreover, says Schwartz, "Star Trek" presented "conflicting philosophies about war" during the height of Vietnam.
