Pat Mitchell
Pat Mitchell served as president of Time Inc.-CNN Productions during the production and first airing of COLD WAR. In this capacity, she was responsible for developing, commissioning and supervising original, non-fiction programming projects for CNN, TBS Superstation and other Turner and Time Warner networks and businesses. She also had responsibility for developing and supervising new television extensions of the Time Inc. magazines and brands. Mitchell, now president of PBS, was co-executive producer, with Jeremy Isaacs, of the COLD WAR series.
Under Mitchell's direction during the past five years, her division produced more than 400 hours of acclaimed documentaries and specials, including "A Century of Women," "Moon Shot," "Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream" and "The Coming Plague." Programs produced under Mitchell's direction have won more than 100 major awards, including 41 Emmys, six Peabodys and 35 CableACEs.
For CNN, Mitchell served as executive producer of the network's Sunday night documentary series CNN Perspectives. She also served as executive producer of two other groundbreaking documentary series -- 10 hours on "The Greatest Events of the 20th Century" and 10 hours on 1,000 years of history entitled "Millennium." Mitchell also was executive in charge of production for two of CNN's three NewsStand programs: NewsStand: CNN and Fortune; and NewsStand: CNN and Entertainment Weekly.
Mitchell came to TBS Inc. in December 1992 from VU Productions, the non-fiction division of Gary David Goldberg's UBU Productions, which she helped found and where she created and developed reality series, specials and documentaries. Before VU, Mitchell was a correspondent for NBC's "Today" program, where she was also a substitute host for Jane Pauley. She also reported for CBS "Sunday Morning" and contributed as a producer/reporter to ABC's "Home" show and the nationally syndicated "Hour Magazine." Mitchell has also run her own production company, where she created, produced and hosted the nationally syndicated talk program "Woman to Woman."
