Cuban fire adds romance to Cerruti's fall line

PARIS (CNN) -- It's the Latin beat that brings seductiveness to Cerruti's fall/winter collection.
Designer Narcisco Rodriguez says that's because he can't escape his Cuban background. He plays with it in shapes, colors, makeup and Spanish-style hair.
But both Rodriguez and company founder Nino Cerruti agree the key word for the collection is sophistication.
"Precious handcraft, precious materials, an easy way of dressing a very feminine woman, but very modern, very much the real life of today," Cerruti says, describing the collection.
Rodriguez experiments with new constructions for his fabrics. His coats, jackets and pants are as soft as dresses.
"They're deconstructed, but they still keep their shape because of the density of the fabrics, the structure of the fabric. The cashmere is just the best fabric example, because it's so great against the skin. It's so modern," Rodriguez explains.
"I think Narcisco has done something that is much more modern, because he has invented a kind of organic fluid pant that goes around the body," Cerruti adds.
Rodriguez says pants are important, but so are other pieces in the collection.
"I'm tired of dictating or designers trying to dictate this is the skirt season, this is the dress season. It's about timeless, beautiful, classic pieces that have an edge," he says.
Rodriguez also says he's not one for accessories.
"I think of the collection and the clothing as a frame for the woman's personality. It's up to the woman to accessorize herself," he says.
When it comes to evening, Rodriguez plays with beading and embroideries. He says it's here that his Latin heritage has the chance to shine.
"It's a little bit more romantic. A little bit of my Cuban roots came out in beading and lace ... peeking through things, red and black," Rodriguez says. "It's just a touch of romance to a manly tailored collection."
