Wedding whites -- Katsura continues 35 years of bridal beautyFebruary 12, 1999Web posted at: 2:25 p.m. EST (1925 GMT) TOKYO (CNN) -- With a mix of traditional Japanese dress and Western whites, HREF="link.katsura.ap.jpg">Yumi Katsura held her 1999 fashion show in grand style. Katsura, one of Japan's leading bridal costume designers, debuted a collection of haute couture and pret-a-porter summer pieces, as well as glamourous wedding wear. Her designs for women started with simple, but luxurous kimonos, and grew into a elaborate collection of full bridal gowns with embroidered skirts and light and airy ballgowns. Bouquets and veils were left at the alter, replaced by fanciful fans and masks. Flowing chiffon scarves were the favored accessories. For men, suits were simple with clean lines forming traditional silhouettes. Pure white suits paired with patent leather shoes was reminiscent of 1920s dapper duds. The fashion show also celebrated Katsura's 35 years in fashion. She opened Japan's first boutique specializing in bridal wear in downtown Tokyo in 1964.
