From Correspondent Brian Nelson
(CNN) -- Looking for alternative points of view? Overwhelmed
by too much bad news? Or just want to have fun? Here are
three sites to visit.
"DisInformation"is for the
Internet's counter-culture. The site calls itself the "most
subversive" place on the Web, pointing users to "the highest
quality, most powerful and culturally important information
the Internet has to offer." "DisInformation" catalogues
"alternative" news in five categories:
A sixth DisInformation page, called "Newspeak," is a list of
links to a variety of international news sites. A searchable
index is promised for the future.
Good news and nothing but
Browsing for something more upbeat? Check out "The Positive
Press," which promises nothing but "good news every day."
Publisher John Groom says he started the site to "counteract
the tendency of the mainstream media to focus on the
negative." Every day he gleans the Internet looking for
stories with an affirmative nature.
The stories fall under four categories:
Positive Press also has a quote of the day and an article
that gives historical perspective to current events. You
can also sign up to receive stories from The Positive Press
by e-mail.
Cherry Coke craziness
The folks at Coca-Cola built "The Cherry Coke Wall" as a
place to find and submit links to little known, unusual Web
sites. It's an eclectic collection of offbeat locations
exploring sports, entertainment, music and fashion.
Two of the current links, for example, are Footbag Worldwide
and Mr. Cranky Rates the Movies.
The "Give In" section lets visitors recommend their favorite
sites so new links can be posted every week. "The Cherry
Coke Wall" is maximized for Shockwave.
