Two Dead, Five Injured In Bus-Train Collision

Aired March 28, 2000 - 9:12 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Updating the breaking story we have at this hour, still unfolding at this time, two people are now said to be dead and at least five young children are in critical condition after a collision this morning between a school bus and a freight train on the border of Tennessee and Georgia.

It happened, as you can see from this map, in a remote area in Polk County, Tennessee, that's about 30 miles east of Chattanooga.

The bus was carrying students from Georgia's Murray County school system, but it apparently crossed into Polk County to turn around.

Some witnesses say the train pushed the bus 100 yards after that crash.

Again, this story is still developing at this hour. It occurred about two hours ago on the order between Tennessee and Georgia.
