Man Claims to be Holding Hostages at Walt Disney World HotelAired June 29, 2000 - 3:23 p.m. ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: Lou Waters here again at CNN Center.
We have our live cameras today trained on the Boardwalk Inn, which is a Walt Disney World resort hotel with 378 deluxe rooms in Lake Buena Vista, California. This is right across the lake from Epcot Center, if you're familiar with the Disney property.
What we have here is a hotel surrounded by SWAT team members, there is an emergency medical team on standby, and a man inside who has claimed to be heavily armed and who apparently contacted the hotel managers saying he wanted to kill himself, he told the manager he was holding hostages in the hotel.
We have learned from the public information officer with the Orange County Sheriff's Department, Jim Solomon, that the man is claiming to hold a service worker from the hotel, possibly a child, and that this dispute may have its roots in some domestic violence at the hotel. We are watching the story. We are waiting for developments. As soon as we know more, we will pass it along.
In the meantime, here's "TALKBACK LIVE," more with Bobbie Battista.
