Minimal Changes Thus Far in Florida Election RecountAired November 8, 2000 - 4:05 p.m. ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: We are getting first results in the recount, which, as you know, it is already under way in Florida. Mike Boettcher is keeping watch down there in Tallahassee.
Mike, what do you got?
MIKE BOETTCHER, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Lou, there has been a change for, a change for both candidates in the plus column. The net change after four counties, it's plus 23 for Vice President Al Gore. The total, as it stands right now, after four counties has been counted is 2,909,145 for Governor Bush, 2,907,385 for Vice President Gore. That is plus 11 for Governor Bush, plus 34 for Vice President Gore.
So a total of plus 23 for the vice president. Now, the four counties that have been counted are Gilchrist. There was no change in that count. Baker County: no change in that count. We're told that Lee County and Hamilton County also faxed in their results, but very minor changes, as you can see by this. They expect the recount to kind of go this way, to be minor changes back and forth. And if you look at this, Lou, both sides gained votes, but with Vice President Gore gaining 23.
So that's the latest. The campaigns haven't even seen this. And that was released just a couple of minutes ago, Lou.
WATERS: OK. Mike Boettcher is keeping track: plus 23 for Gore, plus 11 for Bush in the recount going on now in Florida.
