| Breaking NewsMilitary Jet Collides With Civilian PlaneAired November 16, 2000 - 4:29 p.m. ETTHIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. WATERS: All right, I've been monitoring WFLA television broadcast from Sarasota, Florida. There's been a plane crash. Let's listen to what they have to say. UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Five miles east of Sarasota International airport in a very populated area just along the interstate. There's a lot of heavy traffic in here coming and going out of Sarasota. This is a training area for light airplanes, so it is congested. What happened, how they hit each other and why is very, very sketchy at this point. WATERS: An F-16, apparently, and a Cessna collided. We're looking at the smoky area where the F-16 apparently went down. We heard preliminary reports of two dead. There are parts of a small plane, earlier indications are it was a Cessna, around a golf course beneath the helicopter we're now seeing which is shooting the pictures. Let's listen to more here. UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It was only 15 minutes ago that the call went out so we really are very, very sketchy. (AUDIO GAP) WATERS: OK, we're getting preliminary information and these early pictures. You heard the helicopter pilot for WFLA saying this call went out about 15 minutes of a mid-air collision above Sarasota involving some small plane and an F-16 fighter jet. We are apparently looking at the area here where the F-16 went down. An early indication of two people dead in this mishap. We're picking up pictures from two separate television stations in the Sarasota area. This is WTVT helping us with this picture. So since we have no further information, we just have pictures and you know what the story is. We'll wait for more information as soon as there is more to report. We'll pass it right along to you.
