THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: We continue to follow our story breaking this hour, the story of plant shooting at Navistar International in Melrose Park, Illinois. We understand there have been some four people injured, one man dead, now from the shooting incident.
And we are joined now on the telephone by Peter Jankovics, who was -- we actually heard him talking moments ago to our affiliate WBBM in Chicago.
Peter, Mr. Jankovics are you there?
PETER JANKOVICS, WBBM REPORTER: Yes, I am.
HARRIS: OK, now we moments ago heard your story. Can you give us, for those just now joining us, again what exactly happened there, and what did you see and hear?
JANKOVICS: I was on the other end of the plant, so I didn't see anything. But they came through, the alarms went off, the buildings evacuated, and once we got outside, we found out a man came in with an AK-47 and started shooting. He shot, reportedly, four people, and then turned the gun on himself, shot himself, killed himself.
And that's pretty much all we know except that the rumor is the man is a former employee that was caught stealing motors about two years ago -- and fired, lost his pension, spent some time in jail, and came back.
HARRIS: Now, if you're calling that information about the shooter a rumor, are you hearing this -- this is basically hearsay, or have you not talked to or heard from people who were actually there in the office where shooting who could identified the man?
JANKOVICS: There was one -- when I left the building, there was a guy that was walking out with me who was from that section. He didn't know the man personally, but I talked to another individual who was here a bit longer, and that's what he told a group of people that I was with.
HARRIS: Now, where are you right anyway -- are you in the plant right now?
JANKOVICS: Yes, I'm just inside the building. They're holding us off from going in to get our stuff. They're treating the whole building as a crime scene.
HARRIS: Do you hear any other word at all about whether or not another person or another suspect may actually be involved in this shooting at all?
JANKOVICS: No, no word on another suspect. Just that one.
HARRIS: All right, well, Peter Jankovics, we appreciate your telling the story for us this morning.
And folks, we'll continue to follow that story and deliver to you any of the breaking developments as they do come in.
