KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: More on the breaking news story in Turkey, the plane that crashed just minutes ago. Our Jane Arraf on the phone from Istanbul -- Jane, what can you tell us?
JANE ARRAF, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Kyra. We're just seeing the first pictures come in. What we're seeing, actually, is the entrance to the Diyarbakir airport, which has been surrounded by military armored personnel carriers. Now, this is an military area. There's a military airport there as well. Diyarbakir quite close to the Iraqi border, and the site of a major Turkish military base. It has been surrounded by military.
Now, the main point of this crash is that there are survivors, there are people being taken to hospitals. This is a crash of a Turkish Airlines scheduled flight from Istanbul, stopping over in the capital Ankara, and on to Diyarbakir, the main city in southeast Turkey. It had 71 passengers and crew on board, some of them -- many of them possibly have survived, since they are being taken to hospitals to be treated.
Now, the plane appears to have crashed on landing at Diyarbakir airport in what appears to have been foggy weather -- Kyra.
PHILLIPS: All right. Our Jane Arraf live from Istanbul there as we're looking at the first pictures of this Turkish Airlines crash.
