CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: All right, this just in to CNN. I just pulled this off the wire right now and it has been confirmed by CNN. There's a fierce battle going on in Pakistan, in the country's mountainous south Waziristan region. It's between Pakistani forces and members of al Qaeda.
We know at least 12 people were killed, 12 others detained. Now, we also know that it is suspected that Osama bin Laden is hiding out in this area. Of course, we don't know if he was even involved or he was taken captive, but that's why this battle is so very interesting.
Of course, we will keep you posted. But we know right now 12 people killed, 12 others detained, and it's a fierce battle, because they're using helicopter gunships and the fighting is still going on. It's heavy fighting in three different compounds.
The Pakistani Army now has it surrounded. As we get more information about this, of course, we'll pass it along to you.
