CNN LIVE EVENT/SPECIAL

Supporting Michael Jackson

Aired January 12, 2004 - 12:01   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: I want to go live to Los Angeles. Jermaine Jackson, the brother of Michael Jackson, the pop star, is speaking out, generating -- trying to generate some support for his embattled brother.
JERMAINE JACKSON, MICHAEL JACKSON'S BROTHER: Our deepest gratitude. Thank you for coming, and thank you once again, the fans, who are deeply honored. Thank you very much. That's all I've got to say.

QUESTION: Can you just comment as to what the family is going through?

BLITZER: All right, that was Jermaine Jackson.

Let me update our viewers on what was going on there. There was a news conference he was participating. His fans -- Michael Jackson's saying that -- Michael Jackson's fans suggesting they're going to go out on the offensive to try to enlist support for Michael Jackson, the pop star, in advance of the arraignment that's coming up, I believe, on Friday.

Jermaine Jackson speaking out only a few moments ago -- let's listen precisely to what he had to say.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JACKSON: All right, on behalf of the Jackson family, we would like to thank everyone -- how grateful we are that Michael's fans are here to support him at this difficult time.

As you know, Michael is being arraigned on January 16th in the Santa Maria, California, courthouse. He is innocent. My brother is innocent -- 1,000 percent innocent.

My mother, my father, my sisters and my brothers are overwhelmed at the outpouring of the support from the fans, both here in the United States and all around the world. It is a true testament -- it is a true testament to Michael and his messages of love and inclusion that so many people of diverse backgrounds are traveling from around the globe to support him.

There has been an outpouring of messages from fans who can't make it to Santa Maria, but want to express their support for Michael. I would also like to thank them for their prayers and their best wishes. We love you. We know you love Michael.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BLITZER: There he is, Jermaine Jackson, the brother of Michael Jackson, announcing plans for buses and caravans of fans of Michael Jackson to make it up on Friday to Santa Maria, California, for the arraignment of Michael Jackson. That's near Santa Barbara. Michael Jackson, as we all know, is accused of child molestation -- seven counts of that.

We're going to have extensive coverage, clearly, on Friday when Michael Jackson is formally arraigned, but Jermaine Jackson saying there is going to be a major public relations campaign on behalf of the pop star. He says there is no doubt in his mind his brother is innocent.

More on that. That will be coming up.
