U.S. officials announce "credible reports" that Mohammed Atef, a top aide to Osama bin Laden, was killed in an airstrike near Kabul, Afghanistan. Atef -- whose daughter is married to one of bin Laden's sons -- had been among the top three in al Qaeda since 1996, according to U.S. officials. He was considered al Qaeda's military chief and bin Laden's likely successor.
