Q: How do I create my own alert?
A: Create your own alert by entering keywords. Click "create your own" located at the bottom of a "Your E-mail Alerts" box found on a story page.
To receive e-mail alerts with stories that interest you the most, it is important to select specific keywords. If you select a generic word, you will receive every article from CNN.com and CNN/money.com that includes the generic keyword.
Refine your alert by entering keywords that you want filtered out. For example, if you are interested in stories about George Bush but not stories that include the word "taxes," enter "George Bush" in the keyword field and "taxes" in the "excluding" field.
Name your alert. The alert name is how your alert will be identified both in the e-mail and the "manage alerts" feature.
To change how you'd like to receive your alerts, click "edit delivery options."
Click "activate" to add the alert to your manager alerts page.
