You may be focused on Halloween plans, but Thanksgiving is creeping up, just around the corner. And that’s one meal you don’t want to procrastinate on planning. Right now is a good time to start figuring out your full menu, decor and even specialty drinks for the night.
To say that this is daunting for first-time Thanksgiving hosts is a gross understatement. But luckily for newbies, HelloFresh has debuted a brand new Thanksgiving meal box that promises to reduce the hassle and stress of cooking a full spread with all the fixings. The box, which feeds up to 10 people, comes with ingredients, recipes, and tips and tricks to create the following dishes:
- Roast turkey with garlic herb butter and pan gravy.
- Cranberry sauce with orange, ginger, and cinnamon.
- Classic gravy with garlic and herbs.
- Garlic mashed potatoes with crispy fried sage.
- Cranberry and chicken sausage stuffing with celery, thyme and sage.
- Green beans with caramelized shallots and crispy breadcrumb and almond topping.
- Apple ginger crisp with cinnamon pecan crumble.
The price for this limited-time box works out to $14.90 per serving. A sides-and-dessert box (all of the above, minus the turkey) is also available at $8.90 per serving. And unlike the other boxes HelloFresh offers, this one does not require a membership to purchase.
After testing, we were very impressed with the offerings.
You’ll receive pretty much all the ingredients (minus a few routine items like butter, oil, salt and pepper) on your doorstep. In addition, the box comes with a detailed recipe plan that even breaks down your hour-by-hour game plan the day of (and in advance, if you want to prep a day ahead).
Our tester had never cooked a turkey before and never made a full Thanksgiving meal solo before. Even so, she found the directions and recipes to be easy to follow and pretty much foolproof. The turkey came out tender and juicy, and all of the sides and dessert were delicious. Seriously, a perfectly cooked turkey on the very first try. Better yet, our tester noted how stress-free the cooking process was, if you follow the full four-hour game plan provided and prep a few things the day before, like the bread for stuffing and the dessert.
It is worth noting that you’ll need a number of cooking tools that won’t be provided with the box – things like roasting pans, a meat thermometer, measuring cups and a potato masher.
And if you want to receive the box in time for Thanksgiving (to be delivered between November 13 and 18), you’ll need to order it by November 8.
If you’re very particular about controlling every aspect of your Thanksgiving feast, the box probably isn’t for you. But if you love good food but don’t have time to plan out a full meal, go grocery shopping and then whip up a multicomponent dinner on the fly, HelloFresh will be your favorite sous-chef come November 22.
