Bush (49%) defeated Gore (49%) by 537 votes (in a recount).
Presidential voting history

Florida was one of two states that Bill Clinton won in 1996 after losing there in 1992. In 2000, the fight over the Florida recount went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. After 36 days of uncertainty, the court's 5-4 decision finally settled the outcome of the contested vote and the presidential election.
