CNN projects that Democrat Eric Adams will win the race for mayor in New York City, defeating Republican Curtis Sliwa. Adams was widely seen as the favorite after winning a highly competitive primary in June 2021. The retired police captain and former state senator will be the second Black mayor in the history of the country’s largest city (Democrat David Dinkins served from 1990 to 1993).
